‘This is not sitting right’: Brother mourns man shot dead outside downtown Lincoln bar
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was shot and killed early Sunday morning outside a bar in downtown Lincoln, police say.
About 3 a.m., first responders were sent to the Royal Hookah Bar and Lounge near 16th and O streets, where they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds.
The man, a 32-year-old from Lincoln, was taken to a hospital, where he died.
Police said they have the person responsible in custody and are interviewing numerous witnesses.
The Lincoln Police Department has not released the identity of the victim.
But John Scott Davenport II told Channel 8 that it was his brother.
He said he woke up Sunday morning to phone calls letting him know that his brother, Gregory Little Jr., was shot.
“I was trying to figure out what happened,” Davenport said. “So I went to his house to see if he was home, and no one was there.”
He said that according to Little’s son, there was a fight at the bar.
“One of the security guards thought he had a gun on him and shot him four times in his chest,” Davenport said.
Channel 8 reached out to LPD, but a spokeswoman said no further details would be released yet.
Davenport said he and Little were close.
“I grew up with him my whole life,” he said. “I know two people in this world, my daughter and him, the most. He’s like one of the biggest teddy bears to me.”
Jay’vianna Davenport, John’s daughter, remembers her uncle as a nice person.
“I went to his house, and we ate dinner together and had dessert,” she said. “I always played with my cousins at his house.
John Davenport said Little leaves behind a full life, a family he loved, and a business he poured his heart into.
“He leaves his kids behind, his legacy,” he said. “His food truck, everything you ever worked for. … Like, there’s a lot of people that that he left. This is not sitting right at all.”
The death is Lincoln’s first homicide of 2024. There were eight in 2023, compared with 11 in 2022.
