‘This kid is going to be throwing some touchdowns’: Husker fans excited about starting QB
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska football named true freshman Dylan Raiola on Wednesday as its starting quarterback for the home opener.
Students and Husker fans at Memorial Plaza expressed their excitement after the announcement.
Justin Witcofski said Raoila is a great addition to the team.
“I think it’s good if they are trying to make a new identity for the team,” he said. “Young guys can bring new energy and stuff like that.”
University of Nebraska-Lincoln student Danny Morris is expecting big things this season.
“I’m just hoping he can bring us to the promised land, hopefully a bowl game this year,” he said.
For Cooper Markle, a freshman at UNL, the decision to pick Raiola was a full-circle moment.
“I was so pumped when he committed, and now seeing him play is really awesome,” he said. “I’m a freshman, too, so seeing him play off the rip is pretty cool.”
Another UNL student, Sarah Brezina, said she’s even more excited to attend Husker games this season.
“I know that it will help us, especially with our coach being new and having one season under his belt,” she said. “I think this season will be good with our new recruits.”
Husker fan Christopher posted on the Now Local News App that he was “psyched” for the upcoming season.
“I think this is going to be an amazing season for Nebraska,” he said. A lot of positives going into it. This kid is going to be throwing some touchdowns, there’s no doubt about it. So Go Big Red and bring it on!”
Several students said they expect the first tailgate to be packed as fans watch Raiola and the Huskers take on UTEP on Aug. 31.
