‘This year is going to be different’: Huskers speak at Big Ten Media Days

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – “This year is going to be different,” Husker football head coach Scott Frost said at Big Ten Media Days.

Frost along with Huskers Quinton Newsome, Garrett Nelson and Travis Vokolek represented the team at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Tuesday.

During Frost’s time at the stand, he spoke about the team’s leadership this season and said it’s the closest he’s ever seen the team.

The Huskers will see some changes for the upcoming season, which will include play-calling from offensive coordinator Mark Whipple instead of Frost.

“There are always little things we might tweak or ways for us to look to get a little better,” Frost said.  “My role is going to change a little bit having an offensive coordinator to take it over a little bit.”

In four seasons as head coach, Frost has yet to put up a winning season.

“For the most part, we’ve been doing it the right way.  It just hasn’t led to the results we wanted yet,” Frost said.

During his allotted time, Frost also spoke about the pressure to win in the Big Ten saying the Huskers have had to play catchup with other teams in the conference.

“Any year you’re coaching at a school like Nebraska or any of these schools in the Big Ten there’s gonna be pressure to win and we certainly were playing catchup with a lot of teams for a long time,” Frost said.  “I think we’ve done a good job at closing the gap.  Had our chances to win a lot more games than we have and it’s our time to do it and the pressure doesn’t change.”

After the press conference ended, Frost and company left for the airport to get back to Lincoln in time for fall camp, which starts on Wednesday.

They will also make it back in time for Tuesday night’s Fan Day event.

The Huskers will open their season against Northwestern in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic in Dublin, Ireland on Aug. 27.
