Thousands lose power as blizzard blows through Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Thousands of Lincoln Electric System customers lost power Tuesday during a winter storm.

At one point in the evening, more than 5,000 customers did not have electricity.

As of 11:45 p.m., that number as down to 1,500, according to the utility’s outage map.

That number peaked at more than 5,000 earlier in the evening.

Lancaster County is under a blizzard warning.

The Storm Alert Team said wind gusts of up to 70 mph are possible.

The Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department said power outages knocked out traffic lights at 10 intersections Tuesday night:

  • 17th and G streets
  • 17th and M streets
  • Centennial Mall and M street
  • 14th and N streets
  • 17th and Q streets
  • 16th and O streets
  • 17th and O streets
  • Antelope Valley Parkway and P Street
  • 48th and Fremont streets
  • 48th and Adams streets

Three intersections have flashing red lights:

  • 25th and O streets
  • 27th and Vine streets
  • 14th and N streets

LTU said those intersections should be treated as four-way stops.
