Three minors arrested after stealing a vehicle and having stolen handguns
Three juveniles have been arrested by the Nebraska State Patrol after a pursuit if a stolen vehicle in Omaha. During the incident, troopers also recovered two stolen handguns.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) —Three juveniles have been arrested by the Nebraska State Patrol after a pursuit if a stolen vehicle in Omaha. During the incident, troopers also recovered two stolen handguns.
NSP says it happened in the early morning hours of Saturday, around 1:00 a.m., they received a reporter that a Jeep Gladiator had been stolen in Lincoln and was traveling towards Omaha.
After locating the vehicle, troopers tried to pull them over but after a brief stop, they fled as the trooper tried to contact the driver, initiating a pursuit.
While traveling down I-80, the Jeep reached speeds of 110 miles per hour, troopers say a handgun was thrown out the window of the vehicle. Another trooper recovered the gun while the pursuit continued. The Jeep then voluntarily stopped near the 20th street overpass. Troopers were then able to take the three occupants into custody without further incident. A second handgun was located inside the vehicle. Both guns were determined to be stolen.
Troopers say the driver was an 11-year0old boy, he was cited for theft by unlawful taking, possession of a stolen firearm, flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, obstruction, and traffic violations. He was released to his mother. The two passengers, who were said to be 14-year-old boys, were taken to the Douglas County Youth Center.
There were no injuries related to the pursuit, which lasted a total of three minutes.
