Three teens cited in arson at vacant home west of Lincoln, sheriff’s office says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Three teens were caught Monday after they set fire to a vehicle at a vacant home in Lancaster County, the sheriff’s office says.

Around 7:15 p.m. Saturday, fire crews from Pleasant Dale and Malcolm were sent to the home near Northwest 56th and Holdrege streets on a report of a car fire.

After an investigation, the sheriff’s office found that the vehicle – a 1997 Ford Coutour worth around $2,400 – was intentionally set on fire.

Another $2,000 in damage was done to the home’s drywall, furniture, windows and doors, Capt. Tommy Trotter said.

On Monday, investigators found the teens who live in a nearby Lincoln neighborhood.

The teens – a 16-year-old and two 14-year-olds – were cited on suspicion of burglary, third-degree arson, criminal mischief and criminal trespassing.
