Three-year-old Lincoln girl facing brain surgery, family asking for help

Three–year–old Aiyanna Simpson has endured more surgeries in her young life than most will endure in a lifetime.

“I don’t think anybody ever anticipates having a child born with complex disabilities like this until it happens to them,” said mom Adrienne Walker.

When Walker was pregnant with her daughter a doctor told her her baby would be born with multiple disabilities.

But it wasn’t until little Aiyanna was born that the extent of those disabilities was discovered.

“After she was born we discovered she had malrotated intestines, hydrocephalus, cleft palate, severe case of club feet, she has asplenia, she has sacrogenisis, and just numerous underlying conditions.”

Countless doctors visits and more than half a dozen surgeries later, Aiyanna is faced with yet another surgery.

On Friday, November 2 the three-year-old will undergo brain surgery.

“They will have to go in, remove part of her skull, and relieve the spinal fluid that’s retaining in her brain.”

Aiyanna is expected to stay in the ICU at Children’s Hospital in Omaha for more than a week following the surgery.

Walker, a single mom, will be taking the time off work, but the medical bills are already piling up.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family with bills, so Walker’s only worry will be her daughter.

“You never know how strong you truly have to be until you have to be that strong.”

Seeing the community rally around her daughter has helped Walker find a strength to get through even the toughest days.
