TikTok trend involving water guns prompts false firearm reports in Lincoln, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Police are warning of a TikTok trend that has created “unnecessary alarm” across Lincoln.

On Wednesday, officers received a report of a man wielding a handgun near Canopy and P streets.

When officers arrived, they found the firearm was just a water gun, police said.

The next day, officers got a similar report at Starbucks near 27th Street and Pine Lake Road.

Once again, it turned out to be a water gun.

Police said high school students have been playing a game called “senior assassins,” where they hunt each other with water guns.

The game, which was popularized on TikTok, has prompted a “significant” response from law enforcement, according to police.

“We encourage parents to talk with their kids about the possible consequences of this game so everyone can have a fun and memorable senior year,” police said in a press release.
