After making a deal on ABC’s Shark Tank, one restaurants business is booming and Friday they opened a location in the capital city.

Lincoln’s first Tom+Chee is now serving up their grilled cheese sandwiches  and homemade tomato soup.  Zachary Kenney was their very first customer Friday morning.  Kenney says, “Who doesn’t like grilled cheese and tomato soup.” That’s exactly the thought, Trew Quackenbush and his business partner had back in 2009 when they started the restaurant in Cincinnati.

They’d opened a handful of locations but franchise requests really started rolling in 2013 after the duo’s appearance on Shark Tank. Quackenbush says, “It’s a roller coaster of emotions, getting up to walk in front of those Sharks, but just being there in front of them, getting them to talk about Tom+Chee, the whole experience is surreal, it’s humbling, but it was just amazing, there’s no other word to describe it.”

There are a variety of sandwiches on the menu, including fresh ingredients and subbing out the bread for a glazed donut. Franchise Owner, Mike Manley says, “We think this is going to be a great venue for the Lincoln market and we’re very excited to get moving forward with it.”

Lincoln’s Tom+Chee is the 18th location to open nationally. They expect to triple that number by the end of next year. Kurt Hesser, with the Chamber of Commerce says, “There’s so many wonderful people out there with great ideas and something as simple as that to be able to turn that around and turn it into something as large as this…I think it’s wonderful.” This is Nebraska‘s first franchise; another is expected to open in Omaha soon. Tom+Chee is at 13th and Q, near UNL’s campus. They’re open seven days a week from 10:30 to 10.
