Transitioning to light snow early, chilly day ahead

Winter weather continues Friday morning with a Winter Weather Advisory still in place for southwest and south-central Nebraska through Friday morning. Additional snowfall and blowing snow are expected through this timeframe.

Rain first fell overnight before a transition to sleet and light snow. Everything is expected to transition over to light snow through the morning, ending by the early afternoon. Anticipate that some slick spots are possible especially on elevated surfaces like bridges and overpasses.

Heavy snow has been observed out in southwest Nebraska, especially around North Platte. A lot less snow is expected across southeast Nebraska, with possible additional snowfall after 5 a.m. shown below.

As the light snow showers come to an end, it’ll be a gusty and chilly end to the work week. Highs will be below normal for change today in the lower 40s. Winds will be gusting around 30-35 mph out of the north, making it all feel a lot colder.

Light snow across the area will melt Friday, with even warmer days ahead. Clearing by Friday night will make for a chilly start to the weekend, but highs will be in the 50s and 60s.

Even warmer days to start early next week with highs pushing the lower 70s. We’ve got a dry period coming up for about the next week or so, with some chances for rain into Wednesday and Thursday.
