Transportation Secretary announces major infrastructure investment in Nebraska

News Release: USDOT

U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao today announced $20 million in discretionary grant funding for the US 75 Highway Mobility Improvement project in Nebraska.

The grant is made through the Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Transportation Grants program, which supports support road, rail, transit and port infrastructure projects across the country.

“BUILD grants help address critical infrastructure needs across America and support the needs of a growing economy,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao.

The grants will help the Nebraska Department of Transportation reconstruct about seven miles of US 75/US 34 in Cass County, between Murray and Plattsmouth, widening the two-lane road to four lanes and making other road, bridge and drainage improvements.

When completed, the route’s crash frequency is expected to be reduced by 21 percent, with additional benefits in time-savings for Omaha-area commuters.
