Truck fire, meth, and arrests after two chases involving NSP

Two people are behind bars after a pair of pursuits early Sunday morning on Highway 11 in central Nebraska.

The Nebraska State Patrol said the first chase began around 1:00 a.m. in Hall County, after a trooper stopped to check on a Chevrolet Impala parked on the side of the road.

When the trooper got close the vehicle sped off, resulting in a short chase that ended with Hendrik Torres Rodriguez, 35, of Grand Island being arrested.

NSP said Rodriguez was arrested for felony felony flight to avoid arrest, possession of methamphetamine, and tampering with evidence.

The second pursuit began about four hours later when a trooper saw a Chevrolet Silverado speeding on Highway 11 in Howard County.

NSP says the trooper attempted a traffic stop, but the truck sped up – reaching speeds of over 130 miles per hour at one point.

The truck eventually stopped after its engine caught fire.

Jacob Sautter, 22, of Ord, was arrested for willful reckless driving, felony flight to avoid arrest, speeding greater than 36 miles per hour over the posted speed limit, and numerous traffic violations.
