Playing with toy cop car is something many kids do, but few get to play with a real one.
Saturday morning thousands of kids got the chance to play with police sirens, as well as honk the horns of trucks, planes, and other big machines that filled the Lincoln Airport. It’s all part of the Lincoln Children Museum’s annual Tractors, Trucks, Trains, and Planes event.
"We’ve got every manor of truck, tractor, we’ve got planes, we’ve got helicopters," said Marissa Gill Keyzer, the admissions director for the museum.
It’s the Children’s Museum’s largest event of the year drawing several thousand families from across the state.
Dozens of are agencies participate including Lincoln Fire and Rescue, the Lincoln Police Department, Malcom Fire and Rescue, and the Nebraska State Patrol.
Kids are able to look at their cars and trucks and check out their gear so if an emergency arises they aren’t scared of first responders. Some kids even tried their hand at using a fire hose.
David brought his son Alex for the first time and the fire hose was a big hit, "It was fun seeing the airplanes and watching him shoot the fire hose, he really enjoyed shooting the fire hose that was fun."
Another big hit- the mini train track.
"What’s your favorite thing? The train stuff over there was your favorite stuff? Watching them go around, you like watching them go around?" David said to his son Alex.
Overall the event was a big success with kids and their parents.
"It’s just fun to see how excited they get about being up close and personal with the vehicles they see driving down the street all the time," Gill Keyzer said.
