Tuesday evening storms followed by higher heat and humidity
Another 90° goes in the books. Lincoln made it to 92° Tuesday afternoon, making it the 15th 90° of June and the 16th 90° of the year. We’ve got more 90°s coming Wednesday and Thursday. The difference, Wednesday and Thursday will be much more humid.
We’re watching northeast Nebraska for storm development this evening. There is a chance of thunderstorms developing along a line and moving south. I think the best chance for severe storms remains over the northeast corner of the state. The main threat is damaging winds and small hail.
Any storms that develop will move south/southeast through the evening. Current thinking is that storms will erode by the time they would arrive along the I-80 corridor near Lincoln. I’ll keep a small chance for a thunderstorm in for the capital city between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. Tuesday.
Winds will increase out of the south Wednesday, gusting to 30 mph. This will help advect low-level moisture in to southeast Nebraska. Dew points are projected to climb from the 50°s, through the 60°s, to near 70° by evening. This is going to make it feel much more humid. Combined with air temperatures in the middle to upper 90° (forecasting 97° for Lincoln) and the heat index will peak near 100° during the afternoon.
