Turning cloudy before cold, wind rushes in
After a mild day Monday and highs in the middle 50s, we’ll be slightly cooler Tuesday. Yet high winds and colder days are around the corner for the rest of the week.
Temperatures Wednesday and Friday will be more seasonable.
But temperatures in the 50s on Thursday will come at a price: winds gusting around 35-40 mph for a lot of us.
Tuesday will feature colder temperatures up north. Those in and around I-80 can still expect another day in the 40s and 50s, warmest in southwest Nebraska.
Snow showers will be grazing the South Dakota border with most of the snow actually falling on their side of things. Most areas in northern Nebraska will see little to no accumulation as dry air works against this disturbance.
The forecast toward Christmas will feature quiet days for us in Nebraska, leaning toward below normal precipitation in the tan color below. That would mean less headaches for holiday travel coming up.
This is not the best news if you’re a fan of white on Christmas Day. It’s going to be pretty hard to see any snow through the end of December, especially looking into the temperature outlook.
The days closer to Christmas will be fairly comfortable with mild temperatures above normal, with really good signals for this in central and western Nebraska.
Normal highs at that point in December are closer to about 37° for us in Lincoln, so we’ll have a good chance at being above that most of Christmas week.
