Two accused of child abuse after fight leads to crash in rural York County
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Two people were arrested Friday after a fight over a child led to a crash in rural York County, the sheriff’s office says.
Around 5:10 p.m., officers with the York Police Department were sent to a home near North Iowa Avenue and East 14th Street on a report of a disturbance.
The sheriff’s office said Francis Neville IV, 29, and Madison White, 25, were involved in a fight while a young child was present.
Before the officers arrived, Neville and White had left the scene.
Shortly after, York County deputies responded to a disturbance near Road Q and Road 10, just southeast of York.
This incident involved both Neville and White, according to the sheriff’s office.
During an investigation, deputies learned that Neville and White were fighting over an infant who was in a baby carrier, the sheriff’s office said.
The fight continued as they entered different vehicles, with children in each car.
The two started driving recklessly throughout York County, and White struck Neville’s vehicle from behind, according to the sheriff’s office.
Both vehicles kept driving until they were stopped by deputies near Road 5 and Road U.
The sheriff’s office said no one was injured and the children were placed into the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services.
White was arrested on suspicion of several charges, including child abuse and attempted second-degree assault.
Francis was also arrested on suspicion of child abuse.
“This case could have had a much different outcome if it wasn’t for the quick response of law enforcement and the relaying of information to them by dispatchers with York County 911,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.
