Two arrested in attempt to steal copper wire from downtown Lincoln work site

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Two men tried stealing copper wire Friday morning from a downtown Lincoln construction site.

Around 12:40 a.m., an officer near 9th and Q streets saw 43-year-old Ryan Mar inside a fenced-in work site.

A black Dodge Ram was parked next to the fence, police said.

The Ashland Police Department had alerted LPD that someone was planning to steal copper wire and construction materials from the work site.

As officers set up a perimeter, another officer found Mar walking on 10th Street, according to police.

He had 2.8 grams of meth and 5.5 grams of marijuana on him, police said.

Mar was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance.

The owner of the Dodge – a 57-year-old Waverly man – was arrested on suspicion of trespassing.
