Two cars engulfed, two others charred in UNL parking garage fire

Lincoln Fire & Rescue says two cars were engulfed and two others charred in a fire that started inside a University of Nebraska-Lincoln parking garage.

The fire started around 8:00 a.m. Tuesday inside the Avery Parking Garage near N 14th and Salt Creek Roadway.

No one was injured in the fire.

Fire inspectors are still investigating what caused the fire.

It took firefighters a while to get the fire out because the vehicles were on the third floor of the garage.

Firefighters also had to be careful because of the potential for the vehicles’ gas tanks to explode.

Officials say some of the tires on the vehicles did explode.
