Two critically injured in semi-truck crash on Highway 2

A semi-truck hit a sedan that was turning left onto 40th Street on Monday, Lincoln Police say.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Two were sent to a local hospital with critical injuries after a crash involving a semi-truck on 40th Street and Highway 2 on Monday.

At 8:38 a.m., a 57-year-old male driving a semi-truck was heading west on Highway 2 approaching 40th Street, Lincoln Police say.  A 56-year-old female and her 16-year-old son were driving a Kia Sorento heading east on Highway 2, waiting to turn left onto 40th Street.

The female was waiting to turn left on a flashing yellow arrow, both eastbound and westbound traffic had green lights.  As she turned onto 40th Street, they were hit by the semi-truck, according to Lincoln Police.

The female and her son were both transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.  Drugs, alcohol and speed are not believed to have played a role in the crash, Lincoln Police say.

The investigation is ongoing and no citations have been issued at this time, according to Lincoln Police.
