Two dead after head-on collision in Hamilton County

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two-vehicle crash just north of Aurora.
On Monday at 3 p.m., law enforcement was called to a crash at the intersection of Highway 14 and 16 Road.
Officials said in a press release that a Kenworth semi was driving south on Highway 14 when the truck’s breaks activated, causing the semi to cross the center line.
The semi then collided with Dodge pickup driven by 42-year-old Nathan Omel of Grand Island, officials said.
Omel was pronounced dead at the scene, law enforcement said.
Officials said the rear passenger, 66-year-old Cynthia Omel, was also pronounced dead at the scene.
The front seat passenger, 95-year-old Marion Omel, was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island, where he is still hospitalized.
Officials said the driver of the semi, 34-year-old Terrance Callahan, was not injured.
Seat belts were used in both vehicles and the investigation is still ongoing.
