Two in critical condition after north Lincoln shooting, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Police Department responded to a shooting in north Lincoln on Saturday.

Around 10:30 a.m., both the police department and Lincoln Fire & Rescue were sent to a home near 26th and Potter streets.

When officers arrived, they found a 41-year-old man and a 32-year-old Lincoln woman with gunshot wounds.

According to the police department, they were both taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The man was then flown to an Omaha hospital for further treatment.

Both victims were in critical condition Saturday night, police said.

One man who lives on the same street, but prefers to remain anonymous, told Channel 8 he noticed the heavy police presence and came to make sure a young woman standing outside was okay.

“She was in the house, in the basement when it happened but she was pretty reluctant to talk about it,” he said. “When the police officer came, she asked that I stay while he talks to her and I was like OK.”

Having recently bought a house in the neighborhood, he said this makes him more cautious.

“Again, I don’t want to be a trouble maker, I stay in my lane, but I have my kids to think about,” he said. “I’ll be stuck in a neighborhood that’s become not safe. I don’t really know what to do at this point. I thought having the police down the street was an assurance.”

He said criminal activity happens in the open in the area, and he hopes LPD can do something to make it safer.

“I hope that this opens their eyes to do something because everybody knows what’s going on,” he said. “Everybody knows what’s going on and if you sat here for 15 minutes, especially in the evening, you see it. Nobody’s being coy about it.”

LPD said a suspect is currently being sought out, but there is no danger to the public.

The shooting is still under investigation.

This is a developing story. Check back with Channel 8 for updates.
