Two injured in wrong-way crash on Nebraska Highway 2 near Palmyra

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Two people were injured Monday night in a crash on Nebraska Highway 2, authorities say.

On Tuesday, the Otoe County Sheriff’s Office released the first public details on the collision.

It happened about 8 p.m. Monday east of the intersection with Nebraska Highway 43 near Palmyra.

The sheriff’s office said a Nissan Rogue was going west in the eastbound lane and hit an Audi Q5 head-on.

The driver of the Nissan, a 63-year-old Lincoln man, was flown to a Lincoln hospital with serious injuries.

Sheriff Colin Caudill said the driver of the Audi, a 54-year-old Nebraska City woman, was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

Authorities think alcohol played a role in the crash.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing.

Last year, there was a spike in crashes on that stretch of Highway 2.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation said Tuesday that a safety improvement project is in the works.

An NDOT spokeswoman said there will be “significant modifications” to multiple Highway 2 intersections, including Highway 43 and I Street.

Officials will seek the public’s input next spring. Construction is scheduled to start in 2026.
