Two injured, vehicle airborne for more than 60 feet in northeast Nebraska crash
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Two people were injured in northeast Nebraska on Tuesday when their vehicle landed in a field after flying through the air for more than 60 feet.
The crash happened shortly before 3 p.m. on Highway 15 near 823rd Road, about 35 miles northeast of Columbus, authorities said.
A northbound SUV went off the highway into a steep ditch, then into a grass field, according to the Stanton County Sheriff’s Office.
The vehicle drove through the grass at highway speeds for several hundred yards, then became airborne, flying over Road 823.
The sheriff’s office said the SUV landed in a newly planted bean field, then traveled 40 more yards before coming to a stop.
The driver — a 73-year-old woman from South Dakota — and her male passenger were rescued from the vehicle by first responders.
They were taken to a hospital in West Point.
Both were wearing seat belts, which the sheriff’s office said prevented more serious injuries.
