LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Saunders County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a double-fatal crash just outside of Wahoo.

Just after 7 a.m. Friday, first responders were sent to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 77 near the County Road H intersection, about 3 miles south of Wahoo.

Investigators said both vehicles were traveling south on Highway 77.

According to authorities, a 2005 Ford Explorer — driven by an 18-year-old male from Wahoo — struck the rear of a 2023 Mercedes — driven by 81-year-old John Miller from Omaha.

Miller was taken to the Saunders Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

The passenger in the Mercedes, 78-year-old Sheila Miller of Omaha, was taken to Bryan West in Lincoln, where she was later pronounced dead.

Authorities said the teen was taken to the Saunders Medical Center with minor injuries.

Highway 77 was closed in both directions for around three hours.

The crash is still under investigation, but distracted driving is believed to be a factor.

Seatbelts were in use by all occupants, and alcohol does not appear to be a factor, according to authorities.
