Two killed in crash southeast of Hastings

Two people are dead after a crash southeast of Hastings Wednesday, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Department.

A statement from the department said it happened at about 1:40 p.m. at Maxon Avenue and J Street.

The sheriff’s department said Parker Short, 18, of rural Hastings, was driving west on J Street when he crashed with a vehicle headed north on Maxon Road.

Witnesses said Short ran a stop sign, but the crash is still being investigated.

According to the sheriff’s department, the driver of the vehicle headed north – Isaiah Zapata, 20, of Grand Island – as well as a 18-year-old passenger in that vehicle were transported to Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings.

Short was taken by life team to Bryan LGH West in Lincoln.

Authorities said two 19-year-olds died after being transported to Mary Lanning Hospital: Jessica Guerrero, of Lexington, and Jose Martinez, of Grand Island.

Both were passengers in the vehicle driven by Zapata.
