Two killed in crash with semi on southeast Nebraska highway

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Two women were killed Saturday in a crash with a semitrailer in southeast Nebraska.

The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office said it happened around 12:30 p.m. at Highway 2 and County Road 36 near Syracuse.

An SUV was stopped for a road obstruction on Highway 2 when it was struck from behind by a semi, the sheriff’s office said.

The occupants of the SUV — a 61-year-old woman and a 54-year-old woman— were pronounced dead at the scene.  Both of the victims were from Florida.

The driver of the semi, a 57-year-old Lincoln man, was not injured.

An investigation is ongoing.
