LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Two city workers rescued a kitten that was found alone in a grassy area in Lincoln last month.

In a Facebook post Friday, Lincoln Transportation and Utilities said two members of its engineering team, Tim Hunt and John Juricek, rescued the kitten.

On June 1, Hunt and Juricek heard “tiny” cries coming from a grassy area while completing traffic pre-markings with a contractor.

“Their compassion led them to uncover a precious kitten, seeking shelter amidst the blades of grass,” LTU said.

Hunt picked up the kitten – which was later named Katherine – and after a search of the area, they found that its mother had died.

The two rushed Katherine to the Capital Human Society, where she is currently in the process of being adopted.

“We can’t express enough how proud we are of our LTU team, showing true kindness and concern for even the tiniest members of our community,” officials said.
