Two men are behind bars facing multiple charges after stealing a truck and leading law enforcement on an hours-long pursuit through a cornfield,” said Captain Tom Brookhouser, with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

26-year-old Dylan Dahlgren and 23-year-old Seth Schwanginger, both of Lincoln, were arrested, initially accused of stealing a truck out of Cass County Wednesday morning, and then not stopping for police, Brookhouser said.

Brookhouser said the Cass County Sheriff’s Office called in LSO for help.

"We found the vehicle near Roca and attempted to stop it,” he said. “It continued on a short pursuit. Using on–star we were able to shut the vehicle down and as it was slowing down it went into a cornfield."

The two men inside the truck took off into the field, creating a tough search for the sheriff’s office, Brookhouser said.

"When dealing with corn over 6–feet–tall it’s hard to find people,” Brookhouser said. “Setting up perimeter and getting in there with canines is the best way to find them or flush them out."

It took deputies, Nebraska State Patrol Troopers, Lincoln Police Officers, two K-9 units and an airplane to find the men.

Dahlgren was arrested before noon and Schwanginger was taken into custody at 1:50 p.m., just after deputies called off the search.

There was initially concern about whether or not the men were armed, Brookhouser said.

Later reports confirmed they were not, he said. There was a gun inside the stolen truck, but it was still in the truck when law enforcement searched it, Brookhouser said.

The men are facing a slew of charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle, stolen weapon, drugs and more.
