Two men saved driver from sinking truck in Lincoln pond, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A police officer and two other men rescued a man who submerged his truck into a southeast Lincoln pond on Saturday.
Shortly before 4 p.m., a driver suffered a “medical episode” and drove into a pond near 75th Street and Pine Lake Road, police said.
Jordan Kurtzer, 35, was driving nearby when he saw a large splash in the pond.
He then noticed the truck, which was partially submerged.
Kurtzer and a man named Don quickly stepped into action and began swimming toward the truck.
When the men arrived at the truck, they found that it was locked. In the bed of the truck, Don discovered a tire iron and used it to break the back window.
Kurtzer then entered the truck and unlocked the rear door, according to police.
The truck continued to sink after Kurtzer opened the door, but he was able to get the driver unbuckled and into the back seat.
Don and Kurtzer then found life jackets and wrapped them around the driver’s arms to make him more buoyant, police say.
When Lincoln Police Sgt. Tu Tran arrived, he also jumped into the pond and swam toward the truck.
Tran helped the men get the driver back on shore so he could receive medical treatment.
Lincoln Police say the driver is expected to recover.
