Two new cheetah cubs to be ‘ambassadors’ at Lincoln Children’s Zoo
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Children’s Zoo is home to two new cheetah cubs, who will be “ambassadors” for their species, officials say.
On Thursday, the Lincoln Children’s Zoo announced the arrival of the two cheetah cubs. Those cubs were flown in from the Wildlife Safari in Oregon on June 19.
The cubs are a part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Cheetah Species Survival Plan.
The Lincoln Children’s Zoo was selected as a great fit for the cubs, who will help educate visitors about vulnerable species.
“Cheetahs are endangered and by having cheetahs ambassadors, that is our way to get our community close to these animals and get them excited about conservation and hopefully they can make a difference with cheetahs in the wild,” said Lissa McCaffree, the zoo’s general curator.
The animal care team has been training the cubs and getting them used to their surroundings.
Zoo visitors will be able to see the cubs starting on Tuesday.
