Two teens injured in south Lincoln shooting

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Two teens were injured Friday morning in a shooting in a south Lincoln neighborhood, police say.

Around 5:40 a.m., officers responded to the area of 11th and Hill streets after a boy called 911 to report that he had been shot.

Assistant Police Chief Jason Stille said officers found a 14-year-old boy gunshot wounds to the buttocks and a calf.

He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Shortly after, a 15-year-old boy arrived at a hospital with life-threatening gunshot wounds and underwent surgery, according to Stille.

Officers have recovered two firearms and at least five shell casings at the scene, police said.

“I’m a father, and I have young kids,” Stille said.  “At 14 and 15, you do not expect them to be injured by gunfire, so it’s very troubling.”

No one else is being sought in the shooting, police said, but said investigators are interviewing persons of interest.

An investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with information is asked to call police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
