Two to be tried in celebratory New Year’s gunfire that injured Omaha 6-year-old

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A judge on Tuesday ruled that there was enough evidence to try two people in the New Year’s Eve shooting of a 6-year-old in Omaha.
Douglas County Judge Grant Forsberg found probable cause in the cases against Tayzhia Hampton and Aaron Wallace and sent them to district court.
On Dec. 31, Wallace, Hampton and another female were shooting a rifle in his backyard near 26th and Blondo streets, according to court documents.
Police think they were celebrating the new year.

Hampton meant to fire into the ground but instead pulled the trigger while the gun was pointed toward a house, an arrest affidavit says.
Police said the bullet went into the home and hit a 6-year-old girl, who suffered a wound to her thigh that was not life-threatening.
Investigators later found the rifle hidden under some clothing in Wallace’s home, according to the affidavit.
