LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – University of Nebraska President Jeffrey P. Gold on Thursday announced that a national search is underway for the next chancellor at UNK.

With students and faculty back on campus for the fall semester, Gold gathered the search committee to charge them with finding UNK’s next leader.

“UNK has extraordinary opportunities to change the lives of students and grow Nebraska, particularly our rural communities, well into the future,” Gold said in a press release. “I’m confident we will find the right person to lead UNK forward. This is an important search for the University of Nebraska and our state, and I look forward to engaging with the extended UNK community every step of the way.”

Interim Executive Vice President David Jackson is the chair of the 17-member search committee, which also includes chancellors of the other University of Nebraska campuses.

The committee is also being assisted by CarterBaldwin, an executive search firm.

Gold said the next steps in the search process will include public listening sessions this fall to gather input from the UNK and Kearney communities on what the university should look for in the next chancellor.

Details on those sessions will be announced when they are scheduled.

Following the listening sessions, the search firm and search committee will work together with the President’s Office to develop a job description and begin inviting nominations and applications.
