University Place in Lincoln selected as creative district

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lux Center for the Arts hosted its mural festival on Sunday, which included a special announcement.
Three new murals were featured in the festival, which showcased pieces by regional, national and international artists.
And it was announced that the Nebraska Arts Council had designated the University Place neighborhood as the Uni Place Creative District.
This is the first creative district in Lincoln.
“This is a great thing for economic development in our community,” Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird said. “Its a great thing that brings people together, and it’s really a testament to how much folks in Lincoln celebrate the arts and all they mean to us.”
The festival also had performances, food trucks and art activities.
The murals are on display in University Place, and the Lux said it will continue to do murals until the artists “run out of walls.”
