UNL releases Memorial Stadium survey results
Survey takers were asked questions about alcohol being sold, sports betting at the stadium and also new amenities.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The University of Nebraska-Lincoln released its Memorial Stadium survey results on Tuesday.
A total of 21,782 surveys were completed by Husker donors, football season ticket holders and occasional football ticket buyers.
When asked about their attitudes toward alcohol at Memorial Stadium, 72% had a positive or neutral attitude toward alcohol sales.
UNL compiled key comments from some people about their thoughts on the sale of alcohol at football games.
“Alcohol sales are a no-brainer. As a recent grad most people I know leave the game at halftime to drink and often don’t return unless it’s a good game.”
“Please do not allow alcohol. I know it will make the University some money, but it will absolutely ruin the game day experience.”
Another option UNL provided to people taking the survey was alcohol-free sections of the stadium, which 83% responded with a positive or neutral attitude toward.
In the end, 65% of people said that alcohol sales would not affect their attendance at football games.
People were also surveyed about legalized sports gaming. Sixty percent indicated a positive or neutral attitude toward it. Again, UNL compiled some key comments from survey takers.
“Modernization is important and among ways we can keep up with other programs is by offering buyers the ability to purchase alcohol and gaming.”
“If you allow sports gaming in the stadium, you will ruin the fundamentals of what we stand for.”
Survey takers were also asked about certain amenities they would like to see added to Memorial Stadium. The highest-priority features were wider seating, more legroom and alcohol in lounges.
