UNL students who join vaccine registry could win year of paid tuition, chancellor says

Students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will have a shot at free tuition -- if they join a vaccine registry.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will have a shot at free tuition — if they join a vaccine registry.

Chancellor Ronnie Green said in a campus letter Wednesday that UNL is creating a voluntary COVID-19 Vaccine Registry.

Beginning next week, students will be able to upload their vaccination information to the registry.

Students who register by Aug. 15 will be eligible to win one year of resident undergraduate tuition and fees, which Green’s letter says is worth $9,872. Five students will be chosen.

As for faculty and staff who register, they’ll be eligible to win a trip for two to Ireland with Green and his wife to watch the Husker football team take on Northwestern in Dublin in 2022.

UNL will also once again require weekly saliva-based testing for all students, faculty and staff on campus.

Tests will be offered Sunday through Thursday each week and will remain required weekly for those without exemptions, until public health guidance advises that UNL may be able to pivot to random testing. Those who join the registry will be exempt from these tests.
