UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey Gold approved as University of Nebraska’s ninth president

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The University of Nebraska Board of Regents approved Jeffrey Gold as the school’s ninth president on Friday.
Gold, the chancellor of the University of Nebraska Medical Center, will take over for interim President Chris Kabourek, who has led the university since Jan. 1.
Gold was selected as a priority candidate in March and underwent a 30-day vetting period, which included visits to each of Nebraska’s campuses.

Gold became UNMC’s eighth chancellor in early 2014.
He was responsible for campus leadership, program quality and operations at the university, which has seven colleges, and over 6,000 staff and 4,700 students.
In 2021, Gold was given additional responsibilities, when he was named provost and executive vice president of NU.
He was also the liaison to the Board of Regents for “all aspects of academic affairs,” according to the university.
