UPDATE: Man rescued from storm drain after 24 hours without food, water

A man pulled from a Lincoln storm drain Tuesday night was without food and water for approximately 24 hours, officials said.

Lincoln Fire & Rescue Chief Micheal Despain said Wednesday morning the adult man, who has not been identified, was pulled from the drain near N St. and Antelope Valley Parkway.

Someone heard the man call for help and called 911, and emergency crews spread out across the area searching for the man. It took about 30 minutes to extricate the man from a pipe that was approximately four-feet wide, Despain said.

Officials are still investigating how the man got into the drain, and said he may have mental health challenges. Despain said crews monitored the air before going in to rescue the man, and cautioned about the dangers of going into such an environment.

“The chances of being inundated with water is a good possibility any time, let alone just the air quality issues,” he said.

Officials said the man had no life threatening injuries.

A bicycle was also located with the man.

Lincoln police have not issued any citations at this point.
