Lincoln police and fire and rescue responded to a call about a man who was trapped underneath steel grates.
Around 11:30 Monday morning, Lincoln police and fire and rescue were dispatched to an industrial site at the corner of 70th and Arbor road.
The initial report was that a man had been trapped underneath a large steel grate.
"Lincoln fire and rescue arrived on scene and found the victim trapped under what is called a Grizzly bar. Grizzly bars are used to separate large and small materials," said Lincoln Police Sgt. Danny Reitan.
The man later died at the scene.
"The Lincoln police department is conducting an investigation along with OSHA, and OSHA will be arriving on scene here in a little bit," said Reitan.
According to the 911 caller, a set of grizzly bars became unstable, and collapsed onto the lower half of the man, who was pinned to the ground.
"They are going to have to use some heavy equipment to move the grizzly bar for the recovery and this investigation will be ongoing for some time," said Reitan.
The investigation is ongoing, and out of respect to the family, the victims name has not been released.
Additional interviews are still being done to find out exactly what happened.
"We are not exactly sure what the victim was doing at the time in relation to the grizzly bar, he was the only one on site initially, another worker came by and was present when the accident happened. He has been interviewed and we are still trying to piece things together as far as what was going on," said Reitan.
The investigation is still in the beginning stages, we will keep you updated on the latest information as it becomes available.
