UPDATE: Fire in Southwest Lincoln causes 55k in damage

A Southwest Lincoln home went up in flames early Saturday morning.

The fire broke out just before 9 a.m. near Southwest 6th Street and West Prospector Court in Lincoln.

A passerby called 911 and said smoke was coming from the attic of the home. 

Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews arrived and found flames coming from the living room of the home.

Battalion Chief Jeremy Gegg said the home is vacant, but fire crews searched it to make sure no one was inside.

The fire started in the living room of the home Gegg said and LFR was able to extinguish the flames within 15 minutes of arriving on scene.

LFR said the blaze caused $55,000 in damage to the home and it’s contents.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
