Vehicle crashes into pond in rural northeast Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Volunteer firefighters responded Sunday morning to a vehicle submerged underwater in northeast Nebraska.

The Wakefield Volunteer Fire Department said crews were alerted to a vehicle crashing into the water around 4 a.m. just south of town.

The driver was able to get themselves out of the vehicle, according to officials.  It’s unknown what led up to the crash.

Several local agencies — including the Dixon County Sheriff’s Office and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office — were also at the scene.

Highway 35 was shut down for several hours as crews recovered the vehicle.  The scene was cleared around 9 a.m.
