LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A driver fell asleep behind the wheel Thursday afternoon on a rural Gage County highway, the sheriff’s office says.

Around 5:50 p.m., deputies responded to the crash on Highway 4 and Juniper Road, just northwest of Beatrice.

The sheriff’s office said a 25-year-old DeWitt man was heading west when he fell asleep, causing the vehicle to run off the road.

The vehicle then went back onto the road, skidded and rolled over into a field, according to the sheriff’s office.

The driver was taken to a hospital in Beatrice with minor injuries.  He was later cited on suspicion of not having a driver’s license.

Investigators think speeding, alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the crash.
