Very cold day, below normal temperatures for first time in a while

We are just days away from some holidays and events coming up, including the Super Bowl, Valentine’s Day and a reminder of when clocks will “spring” forward (a little over a month from now).

Around The Corner

False spring was nice while it lasted. But today is very much a reminder that it is still winter.

Many of us have subzero wind chills early on, and high temperatures will struggle to the middle and upper 20s as we endure this colder air mass and cloud cover.

Dma Today High

Today will end the previous streak of 11 days where temperatures were above average.

Most of us will be around 5-15° below average in southeast Nebraska, with average temperatures in early February in the upper 30s.

Dma Compared Average

A decent easterly breeze throughout the day will have wind chills in the single digits in the morning, lower 20s for the second half of the day.

Lincoln Today Wind Chill

Freezing drizzle is a possibility on Wednesday, and any untreated surfaces could become slick. Temperatures for a majority of the day will remain below freezing.

Models are having a hard time showing this possibility, so take Stormcast below with a grain of salt – it likely won’t be as widespread as it is showing below, but the areas in pink have a chance throughout the day of freezing drizzle happening.

It won’t be much, but it also doesn’t take much to make conditions just slick enough for morning and evening commutes. It can be hard to notice on the roads, too.

Model Ice

Keep this in mind with travel throughout Wednesday.

4 Day Temps

Temperatures will warm back to around 40° by the end of the week and weekend.
