Very cold wind chills on Thursday morning
Although many woke up to some sunshine on Wednesday morning, the clouds came back in full force by the afternoon. A snow band also set up and traveled across western Nebraska as a part of an upper-level disturbance. The disturbance ultimately tracked in a way that missed Lincoln, which we mentioned was a good chance of happening from the get-go. Most snow fell south and west of the Tri-Cities.
Although we can’t rule out a few flakes or a flurry on overnight Wednesday, I do not anticipate any accumulations in the capital city. The best chance for a stray flurry overnight and into Thursday morning is south of Lincoln.
It will be a very cold night. We’re forecasting mostly cloudy skies with a low of -1° on Thursday morning in Lincoln.
It will be a breezy night too. Wind chills may approach -20° on Thursday morning in Lincoln, with even colder values farther to the west. You’ll want to bundle up in the morning!
Although the first half of the day should be breezy on Thursday, wind speeds do diminish in the afternoon. Nevertheless, it’ll still be cold as our forecast high is 11° in Lincoln. Although we expect morning clouds, it is possible to see a few breaks in the clouds by afternoon. That said, many of these breaks should fill in by late afternoon as more clouds arrive.
On Friday, we begin a warming trend. Highs should be in the 20s on Friday, rising to the 40s on Saturday!
