Very warm, breezy with late rain chance; fire danger out west
We’re in for another warm day with more of a breeze kicking up this Tuesday. Temperatures will fall to the upper 20s early, then bounce back to about 40° by 9 a.m. this morning.
Compared to Monday, there will be more of a noticeable breeze today.
We’ll be rather warm statewide, with temperatures sneaking into the lower 70s out west. We’ve even got a shot at 70° today here in Lincoln, too.
But fire danger will be a concern for some today as conditions are rather dry in northern Nebraska right now. Severe to extreme drought is up that way.
A deepening system to our north will drag a cold front through the state today, causing winds to really pick up over that area.
Significant winds Tuesday afternoon and evening will lead to concerns about fire danger. Gusty winds will be around 40-60 mph, highest in the Panhandle toward Wyoming.
A Red Flag Warning is in place for areas of central and western Nebraska from noon through Tuesday evening. A combination of warmer temperatures, low relative humidity, dry fuels and gusty winds could contribute to extreme fire behavior.
Any fires that start would get out of control rather quickly.
Moisture is rather limited in the atmosphere right now. So as the cold front passes tonight, rain chances will be limited and rather small as well. Timing of that chance for a little rain falls after about 7-8 p.m. Tuesday night.
Areas will be lucky if they can see up to a few hundredths of an inch out of these spotty showers late.
Once the front passes tonight, temperatures will cool slightly on Wednesday with a gusty northwest wind around 30-35 mph and a high near the mid-50s.
