Veterans awarded military decorated trucks on Veteran’s Day

At Crete Carrier Corp., five veterans received a big gift which displays prideful decorations honoring the military on Monday.
All of this, in front of coworkers, family and friends to celebrate Veteran’s Day. Custom-wrapped fleet trucks were given to five vets who served their country and now drive across it.
“I’ve never been honored for my service like this before, so it’s huge, it’s really heart wrenching,” said Julie Schauvhut, a VETERAN AND TRUCK DRIVER.
She adds that Veteran’s Day is important because it assures that the nation recalls those who fought for the country.
“Remembering us, ya know not me, but yeah I know my service,” said Schauvhut. “I like hearing about their service and where they’ve been and what they’ve seen and what they’ve done. its good to come together.”
The truck drivers were selected based on of their record of military service and their driving career. One veteran summed his feelings about the new truck in few words. “Embarrassing, humbling, it’ll be fun,” said Sam Simonton, VETERAN AND TRUCK DRIVER.
He wears 2 wristbands to commemorate fellow fallen soldiers he served with and they are with him for each ride. Simonton shared one heroic story of his friend, Bill William Bailey.
“He died outside of Taji, Iraq, saving his crew,” said Simonton. “He sacrificed himself, he stayed inside of a burning vehicle to get his crew out and then he couldn’t get out.”
Each veteran has their story, and now with each drive across the country, it will proudly be shown on their trucks.
