Veteran’s estate donates $900,000 to organizations

A big donation to the Lincoln Shriners means helping more children get to hospitals.
“More kids we can help transport,” Oley Friesen, with the Seostris Shiners said. “At hospitals things are changing, we keep four vans of our own and we pay for transportation if parents drive themselves, we pay for that. That amount of money will get us through budget needs for transportation.”
Today they got more than $100,000 from the estate of Joe Meehan.
Meehan was a mason and a WWII veteran.
He died at 92 in February, but his spirit of giving, came back to life today as his estate awarded 10 organizations shares of his $900,000 Estate.
“He loved Lincoln, was dedicated to these organizations he belonged to and he felt because of his living and being part of organizations that he was in the position to give back to him,” Reg Kuhn, attorney for the Meehan Estate said. “And help them further mission even when he was no longer able to during his life.”
The estate awarded donations from $12,000 to more than $100,000.
Other organizations include the Northeast High School/Lincoln Public School Foundation, North Star Masonic Lodge #227 AF & FM, Fleming Family Foundation, Lincoln Scottish Rite Preservation Foundation, Masonic Eastern Star Home for Children, Hallam American Legion Post 294, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 131, Disabled American Veterans and Disabled Veterans Auxiliary.
