Victim of deadly Lincoln crash ID’d; other driver suspected of drug, alcohol use

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A 49-year-old Lincoln man has been identified as the victim of a deadly crash last weekend.

A police crash report says Amare Biftu was pronounced dead at the scene Saturday.

Police said he was going north on 84th Street near Glynoaks Drive when a southbound car swerved into the northbound lanes.

The cars collided, and Biftu’s engine flew off and into the path of another vehicle.

A fourth vehicle tried to slow down but rear-ended Biftu’s car, police said.

Police think the driver of the southbound car, a 41-year-old Lincoln woman, was under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

She also did not have a driver’s license, according to the crash report.

So far, no tickets have been issued in the crash.

Besides Biftu, three other people were injured in the crash. Their current condition is unknown.
