VIDEO: Maryland shooter active-duty Navy, two victims in critical condition
UPDATE: The gunman has been identified as 38-year-old Fantahun Girma Woldesenbet. Fredrick Police Chief Jason Lando said Woldesenbet used a rifle to shot both victims.
FREDERICK, Md. (WJLA) — An active shooter descended on a Maryland business Tuesday morning.
NicoLock Paving Stones, a paving materials supplier, was the 38-year-old gunman’s first target. Two male victims were shot and flown to Baltimore Shock Trauma where they remain in critical condition.
The shooter then traveled to Fort Detrick Military Base, where he was shot by base personnel. Despite life-saving efforts provided by officers, the shooter died on scene.
The identity of the shooter is unknown. But, the U.S. Navy confirmed the shooter was a Navy Hospital Corpsman.
Fredrick police say there is no ongoing threat to the public at this time and they continue to investigate the scene.
We are on scene responding to an active shooter in the 8400 block of Progress Drive. Currently there are two victims and one suspect is down.
