EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: LPD officer, state trooper struck by suspect’s car

Video obtained by Channel 8 Eyewitness News shows the shocking moments that a man pinned two officers against a gas pump with his car.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Video obtained by Channel 8 Eyewitness News shows the moments that a man struck two officers with his car.

The video shows the suspect, identified by Lincoln police as 29-year-old Connor Sweeney, being confronted by a Lincoln Police officer at the U-Stop near 70th and Pioneers Blvd. around 8 a.m. Thursday.

LPD had been called to the gas station after Sweeney was seen on another video going behind the counter, yelling at employees and taking cigars before walking outside.

As the officer attempts to place Sweeney in custody, a Nebraska state trooper arrives to help.

The situation quickly escalates into a struggle as Sweeney gets into his car and puts it in reverse, pinning the trooper between his vehicle and the pump.

The video shows Sweeney pulling forward and the trooper is able to free himself before Sweeney once again reverses, this time hitting both the trooper and the LPD officer.

Sweeney’s vehicle smashes into the officer’s cruiser before the video shows him pulling out of the parking lot.

After a short pursuit, authorities say a trooper used a tactical maneuver to bring Sweeney’s car to a stop on 70th St. between Pioneers Blvd. and Van Dorn St.

Sweeney was arrested for two counts of assaulting a peace officer, felony criminal mischief and robbery.
